Thursday Only: All veterans, active military, and first responders (and spouse and children) get FREE admission with military ID or badge. Served Saturday at the festival after the Grand Parade while supplies last. Included with festival admission. The Strawberry Festival just wouldn't be complete without our famous World's Largest Strawberry Shortcake! The famous Strawberry Shortcake started in 1931 by Munyan Bakery, and continued by the Shimanek's and Durlam's when they took over the bakery. Eventually, the duty of baking the cake was given to Safeway and Roth's, who took turns with the baking responsibilities. Traditionally the shortcake goes through the Grand Parade, and makes its way out to the Festival grounds. The reigning Strawberry Queen and her court are on hand to ceremonially "cut" the cake using one of our historic giant knives before the cake gets passed out to festival...
